Big Brothers Big Sisters has been the nation's preeminent youth-service organization for nearly a century. Our service is based on our volunteers. We have proven success in creating and nurturing positive relationships that benefit everyone involved, including the volunteer, the child, families, and the community.
  • We are a mentoring program dedicated to empowering our children and youth to make positive life choices that will enable them to maximize and reach their full potential.
  • We use adult volunteers who want to make a difference in the lives of the youths in our community by asking them to commit to supporting, guiding and being a friend to a young person.
  • With the help and guidance of an adult mentor, each child can discover how to unlock and achieve his or her potential.

Plans for the Future

BBBS has a vision to develop successful mentoring relationships for all children who need and want them, contributing to better schools, brighter futures and stronger communities for all.

Our mission is to help children reach their potential through professionally supported one-to-one relationships with measurable impact.

In keeping with the 3rd phase of the National Strategic growth plan launched in 2000, we continue to feel a great sense of urgency to serve more children and to help reach the National Network’s goal of serving 10% of the at-risk kids both in our own community and in all communities nationwide (1 million youth!).   We aim to rapidly expand our program in order to ensure that our portion of that goal - approximately 600 youth in Monroe County - are served by a Big in the next 5-7 years.
